Camp Counselors are essential leaders who help create an atmosphere where students can encounter Jesus and be transformed. This program is for adults who are passionately pursuing Jesus and want to disciple the next generation. Camp counselors will:

  • Serve as a “camp mom” or “camp dad” for their cabin group, helping create a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Supervise & lead their cabin group through scheduled activities throughout the camp event.
  • Commit to pray for & provide a spiritual covering for their campers.
  • Lead their cabin group in daily devotions, intentional conversations, & prayer.
  • Model Christ-like behavior & support staff in enforcing camp rules and guidelines.
  • Assist staff with identifying & avoiding potential safety concerns.

FAQs

Is there a cost to be a counselor?

There is no charge to be a counselor. Donations are welcome to help cover the cost of meals & lodging for this incredible mission opportunity. Contact summercamp@vl.church for more information.

How many students will I be responsible for?

Each cabin group usually consists of 2 counselors and up to 15 campers.

Is there training available?

Yes! There is online and in-person training for areas such as safety, prayer ministry, & helping students succeed at camp. If this is your first year serving, you will be paired with a veteran counselor.

Can I apply to serve with the students at my VL Campus?

Absolutely! We strongly encourage our counselors to work with students at their local campus to help foster ongoing discipleship.

My student is attending Summer Camp. Can I apply to be their counselor?

Yes! We love our parents to have the opportunity to be present for this moment in their students’ discipleship.

How are counselors selected?

Applying does not guarantee a place in the program. Counselors are not primarily considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications are prayerfully reviewed, considering many factors such as volunteer history, references, & leadership’s discernment of God’s guidance. All volunteers are required to complete a background check through the ministry and provide references. There are limited spots available for each week of camp.

What is the next step once I apply?

Our team will prayerfully review applications and reach out with any next steps, such as an interview. Contact summercamp@vl.church with any questions.

Is there another way to volunteer?

Yes! There are several behind the scenes opportunities to support the mission of seeing kids transformed by Jesus. Go HERE to apply!
