More than 15 years ago I was working in a service dept at an auto dealership; while I loved my relationships with my co-workers, I knew that I wasn’t happy in my job. Jimmy Jeter who is now my pastor gave me a book on purpose by Myles Munroe called In Pursuit of Purpose. I realized that the job that I was doing was not my true purpose. My happiest moments were actually when I had opportunities to minister to people through music, sharing Jesus, or just by being a friend. That put a fire in me to pursue more opportunities to share Jesus. A few weeks later a great opportunity arose to work at a funeral home. This gave me daily chances to serve people who were going through one of the toughest times of their lives. I continued to chase after my purpose, and now have a fantastic job getting to minister to the lovely people of Broken Bow(my hometown), and also getting to minister to God! It took me the better part of 10 years to settle into and begin operating in my true purpose.
Obviously, Jesus is our perfect example of what life lived on purpose with the Father truly looks like! Jesus said to Pilate in John 18:37 “For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth.” Jesus knew that He was born for a purpose, and yet He knew that His purpose was revealed in His relationship with His Father. The key to discovering and fulfilling OUR purpose is to connect to the Father daily and live there…with Him.
One day I was working out in my yard. I was gathering my tools together, and a pair of work gloves caught my attention. God gave me this great picture of how we are just like a glove. A glove has a particular design. If you think of it in basic terms, it has a shape like all gloves. It looks like a hand. Depending on what purpose the glove was designed and created to fulfill, there are unique differences in every glove, but they all bear the same image, the image of a hand. Some gloves are crafted to do gardening, some for mechanic work, some worn by doctors and medical technicians. We could go on and on, but the point is this. All these gloves were designed and created to fulfill specific purposes, and they all bear the image of the hand.
In this same way, we are all created by design. We bear the image of Christ just as a glove bears the image of a hand. And just like the glove we were all created with a specific purpose.
His purpose fits us perfectly; we are made for it!
THE GLOVE WAS MADE BY THE HAND FOR THE HAND AND WITHOUT THE HAND; THE GLOVE CAN DO NOTHING!
